(FAIRMOUNT COMMUNITY CHURCH)
Wichita, Kansas

With Fairmount Church decked out in festive holiday decor, and Advent candles aglow, the children gather in front of the Manger scene to tell a Christmas story.

ABOUT US:
Best known simply as "Fairmount Church," we are a loving, Christian congregation, open-hearted, open-minded, and open to you.
Fairmount Church has a long and rich history, and an enthusiastic, active life today. We help each other and the community towards a better, happier life, and stronger, more confident, and hopeful spiritual future.
Located in northeast Wichita, at the corner of 16th and Fairmount (one block straight south of Wichita State University's main entrance), Fairmount Church was created in 1892 as a community church for the Fairmount neighborhood. Fairmount Church served as the spiritual center for many of Wichita's early community leaders. The Fairmount congregation were key leaders in the development of
Fairmount College
-- now known as
Wichita State University.
Today, Fairmount Church serves as a beacon of spiritual light for the city, offering a warm and loving Christian church for all people in the Wichita area, providing community leadership for peace and social justice -- while providing support for the neighborhood, and pastoral services for the congregation.
Our wise, humble, and friendly pastor, Rev. Mike Poage, is a recognized community leader in spreading the Christian values of understanding, tolerance, and kindness.
On Sunday, worship services and Sunday-school programs for adults and children are available, and a social hour after church provides everyone a chance to meet, visit and share with friendly Christian folk. We encourange anyone and everyone to attend ~ regardless of age, gender, race, nationality, education, wealth or poverty, religious background, or any other characteristic. Jesus' love is for ALL. We observe the commandment of Jesus to not judge one another ~ but rather to love one another as He has loved us.
Fairmount Church provides facilities for an after-school program and summer day program for neighborhood children, through the
GoZones
program.
We assist the community through our work with Inter-Faith Ministries
and the Peace & Social Justice Center,
and through charitable and social activity in the neighborhood.
The church actively supports the revitalization of the historic Fairmount neighborhood, through the Fairmount Neighborhood Association. And with local support, grand old Fairmount Church has recently been added to the
National Register of Historic Places
.
Despite our fortunate past, our focus is on the future.
We are growing Fairmount Church to include a wider vision of hope and love for the community and the world -- through our friendship and fellowship with one another, our service to the neighborhood and its families, our aid to the poor and homeless in the Wichita area, our expeditions to homebuilding projects in poor neighborhoods of Mexico,
our support of charitable missions abroad, and our outspoken Christian voices for love, tolerance, peace and justice everywhere.
We are answering Jesus' invitation to be the earthly Body of Christ, extending His Love everywhere, for everyone. (This includes YOU !)
